Menorah
(n) Nine-branched candelabra that serves as the centerpiece of Chanukah, the Festival of Lights, a holiday that commemorates our victorious rebellion against the Greeks in the Maccabean War. During a subsequent re-dedication of the Temple, a lamp remained miraculously lit for eight nights—even though there had only been enough oil for one night. Using the Menorah's middle candle instead of a match, a new candle is lit each night until, on the eighth night, all nine candles burn brightly.
