Hadassah Ahrems
(n) This is English/Yiddish slang, which literally translates as: “Hadassah arms.” Not intended to be disrespectful, this term is a reference to the Hadassah, otherwise known as The Women’s Zionist Organization, a wonderful organization that counts many (often older) Jewish women among its membership. The Hadassah has done incredible, global good for generations. In the multitude of local chapters, many Jewish children grow up watching their mothers and bubbes participate in meetings and events. As a result, the infamous saggy underarm skin of women of a certain age, for better or for worse, became synonymous with Hadassah. Feel free to assuage some of the guilt you feel for reading about this (as I did for writing about it) by donating to Hadassah: http://www.hadassah.org
